Over the last ten years GPS has been one of the many technologies that has played a part in the massive rise in gadgets and systems that you can have included in your new car. Automobile manufactures now include whole divisions that look into infotainment, safety and parking systems that can be added to a modern cars repertoire of devices.
Along with parking cameras, all-surround inflating safety airbags and environmental controls, the majority of car manufacturers offer a GPS unit option. The GPS tracking systems are a development out of US Military muscle that was initially designed for tracking military vehicles but was later opened up for civil airlines and more recently the general public. There are about two dozen satellites orbiting the earth daily and all that is required for the system to work is for the car’s GPS tracking system to be pinpointed by three of them to give an accurate reading of your location.
Initially they were used to run satellite navigation systems, which have rapidly developed into sophisticated directional units, with easy to read map displays that, are straightforward to update. The other development that resulted from GPS technology was the GPS tracking systems. These effectively give up to date information of a vehicles position in real time, making it easy for company’s to track the exact whereabouts of their vehicles or families to find their car in a crowded multi-storey.
GPS systems are great for saving money and cutting down on journey travel times. They can be instrumental in avoiding travel black spots, circumventing road works and making it possible to find alternative routes when you are lost. Conscientious drivers can also use the data downloaded from their car to save money on fuel and insurance by choosing the most cost effective journey.
